Weesdport is a small village of just over 2000 residents in Cayuga County. Like many of the western villages along the canal, its name is nautically themed, due to the Erie Canal construction. Even more interesting is that the village's original name was Weed's Basin, in reference to a large basin in the village used for turning boats around within the Erie Canal. The name was later changed Weedsport, and the modern Erie Canal runs just north of the village.
The Weedsport Terminal Wall is located on the south west side of the State Route 34 Bridge. Unfortunately Weedsport is located about two miles to the south, along the original Erie Canal alignment. There are no services at the wall and quite honestly is not the best stop in the area.
